There are several variations of apples to choose from, and some markets even offer discounted pricing on 10-15 pound sized bags of apples labeled specifically for juicing. But which are truly the best?
At the end of the day, it really does come down to personal preference, but after trying nearly every variety, I have to say my top three picks are Gala, Honeycrisp and Fuji. Their flavor is not too overpowering when mixing with other produce, and they’re natural sweetness is just right for evening out the flavor of practically any juice.
When making green juices, I like to use Granny Smiths or Goldens, just to mix things up a bit. The only variety of apple that I tend to stay away from is the traditional, delicious red apples. I just find their flavor is too harsh for juicing and they tend to produce a greater amount of froth. Best leave those for snacking.
This being said, don’t over obsess with which apples you select. You really can’t go wrong and especially if you’re on a budget and shopping smart, then go with whatever choice is in season and best for your pocketbook. But I will say that if at all possible, go organic.
Here’s to your health,
